Taxonomy Permalinks

Overcome permalink limitations, enhance user experience, and boost SEO.

MyListing offers some flexibility and automation with permalink structures, but there are limitations that negatively impact SEO and the user experience.

MyListing Pro lets you redirect users to custom listing taxonomy pages and create listing taxonomy URLs with parent/child relationships.

Custom Taxonomy Pages

When someone clicks on a taxonomy icon within a Listing Preview Card, they can be redirected to a custom taxonomy page, which is much better for SEO compared to sending them to the MyListing Explore page.

SEO-Optimized Links

Have complete freedom when building taxonomy permalink structures, with the ability to get super granular with parent/child relationships (e.g., parent taxonomy, child taxonomy, child taxonomy, etc.).

  • Custom Taxonomy
  1. Ensure the Permalink Manager Pro plugin is installed and activated. See Requirement Note.
  2. Add your taxonomies to MyListing (Listings > Categories, Regions, Tags, or Custom Taxonomy).
  3. Create your custom taxonomy pages. (Note: Custom taxonomy page names must be identical to the corresponding taxonomy name. For example, if your Category name is “Pizza,” then that must be the name of your custom Category page for Pizza.

If you followed the instructions, but the taxonomy links are still opening the Explore page, that typically means you need to clear the Listing Feed widget caching.

By default, MyListing caches the Listing Feeds for 720 minutes (12 hours). You can either wait for those 12 hours to pass and test again or you can manually force the cache to clear right away.

Manually Clear Preview Card Caching:

  1. Edit the page with the Listing Feed widget
  2. Edit Listing Feed widget
  3. Cache Results > Change to 0
  4. Save changes and test
  5. Set the cache back to 720 (or another desired value)

From any MyListing Starter Site, click on a taxonomy icon within any of the Listing Preview cards.

You’ll notice that you are directed to a custom taxonomy page rather than just having the Explore page reload with listings filtered by the particular taxonomy. This is much better for SEO and enhances the user experience.

Your site will go back to MyListing’s default design and functionality.

Yes, current MyListing Pro customers can get support in the Pro Community.
